"This resource material on the life and works of Rizal has been prepared to comply with the mandate of CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) N. 20, S.2013 requiring course subjects such as this one, under the New General Education Curriculum to be outcome-oriented, interdisciplinary and holistic in approach as well as broadly stated to accommodate a wider range of perspectives and developmental approaches. Thus the lessons and activities contained in this material will enable students to understand Jose Rizal not only as a national hero, a martyr of the Filipino people and pride of the Malayan race, but also to display appreciation for education and love of country. The learning content that deals on Rizal's biography, novels, essays, correspondence, etc. can be taught for a total of 18 weeks of 54 hours in a semester, inclusive of quizzes, periodical examinations and other related activities. A suggested course syllabus patterned from the proposed CHED Course Syllabus is included in the Appendix."
