Summary: "Disciplines and ideas in the Social Sciences is a worktext that espouses an innovative approach to learning by coming up with inquiry-based and activity-supported lessons in social science for senior high school (SHS) students. By balancing ample textual content and student-centered reflections, my aim for this book is to introduce the students to various modes of thinking, intellectual traditions, and historical contexts in the study of society. My format for the entire worktext is designed to sharpen the students' analytical thinking about humanity as a whole and the society in which they belong. A healthy mix of examples and applications on local experiences as well as realities from foreign contexts should keep the lessons sensitive and relevant to the realities of their primary readers--the Filipino youth-as well as connected to the currents of global community. All throughout the worktext, I have endeavored to make the lessons and activities as inclusive as possible so that every SHS student from all over the country, who will be using this worktext, will not only learn the discipline, but also appreciate the fact that issues are both context-based and cut across geographic, social, cultural, economic, and linguistic boundaries." -- Preface
