The three-unit course covered by this textbook deals with the teacher as a person and as a professional within the context of national and global teachers’ standards and educational philosophies. It includes professional ethics, core values, awareness of professional rights, privileges, and responsibilities, as well as the teachers’ roles in the society as a transformative agent of change. It provides learning opportunities for students that allow them to (a) meet the program outcomes and standards of a beginning teacher, (b) develop their 21st century skills, and (c) be healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.
